Working with cyanotype as a process for creating artwork is exciting, fascinating and addictive all at the same time! As an artist and printmaker, I have been exploring this technique for a few years now – and feel that I’m still at the early stages of discovering the possibilities on offer…
I have recently started experimenting with making cyanotype prints onto “alternative surfaces”, including tiny, delicate prints made onto teabags. My experiments have stirred up a lot of interest on my Instagram, and it is in response to the many, many requests from people who would like to try this for themselves, that I have produced this e-publication.
This booklet will guide you step-by-step through the process of making cyanotype prints onto teabags. I have illustrated it with photographs showing each stage of my process, from initial designing, through to putting final touches to the finished prints. Supported with clear written instructions, I have also included a troubleshooting guide to help resolve common issues you may come up against when making cyanotypes.
The booklet includes a special design I’ve created and which I’ve converted to negative format. This can be printed onto OHP film and used for your project. The printable negatives can be found on the last page of the booklet.
I hope you will enjoy your creative cyanotype experiments, and that they leave you hungry for more!
